Our Founder, Lee Mokobe, found that at times there were friends and youth in the township who suddenly became either orphans or their parents were unable to support them. Usually these youth are neglected, abandoned or are left in questionable care. Phyllis Oliphant opened her home up to foster these youth and create an environment for them under which they could thrive. Since then the place of safety has housed over dozens of youth some of which who went on to receive their tertiary education and create their own stable families.
This part of Vocal Revolutionaries is ever expanding from the space needed to house youth, to food, educational costs and other needs that occur when a child is being raised. Phyllis Oliphant has fostered VocalRevz youth using her own personal funds and we are ever grateful for her support.
We are able to keep this integral part of our organisation running with resources from donors and partners.
Our home of safety hopes to give these young people the same opportunities afforded to those with families who are able to take care of them. Our home also serves to house any artists who are unable to find employment until such a time they are able to do so.
